Biswakarma, The God of Architecture

The festival of the God of Architecture and engineering, Biswakarma, is celebrated in September by industrial houses, artists, craftsmen, and weavers. According to mythology it is he who created the entire universe as well as the heaven and the earth. Bishwakarma is also credited for creating the missiles used in the mythological era, including the Vajra the sacred weapon of Lord Indra, from the bones of sage Dadhichi. He is regarded as the supreme worker, the very essence of excellence and quality in craftsmanship.
Normally 17th day of the month of Septemeber it is celebrated. The workers worship all their machineries as symbol of the God Biswakarma. Throughout the day colourful kites are flown. The sky fills up with all shades and colors. Chadials, Mombattis, Chowrangees, Petkattas, Mayurpankhis, Baggas fly high to establish the skills of the fliers. The sky becomes a war zone with the discarded kites dropping every now and then with the cry of "Bho-Kattaaa" from the distant roofs or parks.

Hi in Maharashtra we celebrate this type of festival on Khande Navami -

I got this article on interenet.

"I was requested by Girish Varnekar and his colleagues to deviate from our usual
practice and address a few stray thoughts on the occasion of 'Khande Navami'. Let
me first offer my obeisance to 'Vishwa Karma', the God of Artisans. We in India have
been celebrating this day for the last over 5000 years i.e. 9th day of Ashwin
corresponding to the last year of Pandava's wilderness. Pandavas were in hiding for
14 years just prior to MahabharatWar.
One year after its expiry, they had to remain under ground. Hence, Pandavas decided to
hide their weapons in the cavities of tree trunks of Shami Trees and stuff them with leaves,
ostensibly to preserve them from rust. At the expiry of this period, the weapons were recovered free of rust.
As we are in the rust prevention field, Khande Navami is doubly auspicious for us. What Pandavas did for one
year on a short time scale, we are doing for the whole country and for long periods. We supplied through
Special Steels Limited (now Tata Steel Company), our rust preventive papers and powders, to railways for
prevent rusting of pre-stressed concrete wires at Thane Railway Bridge.
Kirloskar Oil Engines has used our products to preserve their engines supplied to Indian Naval Shipyard of
Cochin for over 7 years at a stretch.
These are just 2 examples from hundreds, where our products are used to
preserve metal products in industry and more in particular, in defence.
We should, therefore, be proud that to work in our factory not just to earn
bread but in turn render national service. Therefore, accept it to be your
sacred duty to put all your heart in the work and strive to make our
institution progress smoothly from strength to strength.
While closing, I would like to tell you an anecdote, which you should
remember forever. While Pandavas were in the hiding, Gandharvas had a
tiff with Kauravas. They had chained all 100 Kauravas and wanted to take them away along with their cows as
prisoners. Bhim was happy to know about it and gleefully told Yudhishthir, Gandharvas have done the job for
us. Yudhishthir cut him short and told him “after all Kauravas are our kith and kin. Hence, while facing an
external enemy, we are 105 against the rest rather than regard as 5 against 100”.
Do not forget this golden advise, it is as relevant to-day as it was 5000 years back."

Wow.....just look at our cultural bonding. This is just an example of our unity in diversity. We celebrate the same occasion but in a different style.... different manner altogether
